Grants for professionals

Broadening professionally and research for starting and experienced landscape architects

For the professional landscape architect, the NHBOS fund has three forms of support: the talent grant, the pre-PhD grant and a research and publication grant.

Talent grant

With the talent grant, the NHBOS fund gives recently graduated landscape architects the opportunity to broaden and deepen their knowledge at the start of their professional career. The applicant does this by means of a self-initiated project, mostly (but not necessarily) based on the graduation work. The project has a maximum duration of one year.

The talent grant is given out once a year and amounts to 6,000 euros. The talent grant can be applied for by graduates of the three master's programs in Landscape Architecture in the Netherlands - Wageningen University & Research, Academy of Architecture Amsterdam and MSc track landscape architecture at Delft University of Technology. The applicant must have graduated a maximum of two calendar years before submitting the application.

The application consists of a description of the project/initiative, a letter of motivation, a work plan (including budget and planning), a CV, a portfolio and a letter of recommendation. Applications can be submitted using the form below and have to meet the full conditions for receiving a talent grant.

The deadline for the application is 15 September, and the grant will be announced end November. The submissions will be assessed on the following criteria: the work plan and how this contributes to the applicant's own professional development, the quality of the applicant's completed work as demonstrated in the portfolio and the letter of recommendation from the educational institute. The applicant can apply for the talent scholarship themselves. The application process takes place in two rounds. In round 1, the application consists of a motivation statement (max. 250 words), a brief description of the project idea (max. 250 words), a CV (max. 2 A4 pages), and a link to the applicants landscape architecture graduation project. Applications can be submitted via the form below and must meet the conditions for the talent grant. The application must be submitted before September 15. The jury selects a maximum of 5 applicants from the submitted applications that will be invited for the next round. In round 2, the application consists of a detailed project proposal (max. 3 A4 pages), a budget and planning (max. 2 A4 pages), and a letter of reference. The award will follow no later than January of the following year. Submissions are assessed based on the following criteria: the project proposal and how it contributes to the applicant's own professional development and landscape architecture in general, the feasibility of the proposal based on the budget and planning, and the quality of the applicant's completed work as demonstrated in the portfolio and the letter of reference.

The jury consists of the board of the NHBOS fund and two external landscape architects.

In addition to submitting a report after accomplishing the project, the landscape architects that received a talent grant will give a presentation at the Bijhouwer Event.

Research and publication grant

Professionals can apply for a grant twice a year to support research, publication or exhibition in relation to landscape architecture. The guideline for this grant amount to be applied for is 1.500 euros, with a maximum of 3.000 euros. An application can be submitted twice a year, before 15 May and before 15 November. The decision on whether the application will be granted are taken in May and November.

Applications for the research or publication need to specify the expected contribution to the development of the field of landscape architecture. The grant application contains a description of the initiative, an overview of the expected costs and revenues, a work plan and a list of the persons who support the research or publication in terms of content and/or material. The applications will be assessed on the following criteria: the substantive quality of the proposal, the expected extent to which the development of landscape architecture is stimulated and/or the extent to which it contributes to promoting the importance of landscape architecture to a wider audience.

If the applications for the student grant and the research and publication grant exceed the available budget, priority will be given to the applicants for the student grant.

Only applications uploaded via the ‘research and publication grant application form’ below will be processed. Before submitting, read the full terms and conditions for the research and publication grants carefully.
